When you begin to do any sort of healing work, psychic work or mediumship, it’s really important to make sure you know how to ground.
Grounding is the first technique that we recommend you learn when starting out on your psychic learning journey.
What does it do?
Grounding basically means reconnecting yourself with your body and the earth plane that we exist on in this incarnation.
Why do I need to ground?
Doing any sort of Psychic or healing work can potentially connect you with different realms of reality, with the spirit world or with your higher self (or soul.) This can be really lovely to experience, but afterwards it can leave you feeling spaced out, floaty or not quite “with it.”
Grounding is extremely important to bring you back to your body and to this plane of existence.
It also helps you to let go of any spiritual energy or other energies that don’t belong to you.
What happens if you don’t ground?
If you continually do psychic or healing work without grounding, then you may start to find it difficult to go about your daily life.
As one of my spiritual teachers once told me,
“If you don’t ground yourself, you’ll end up with no toilet paper in the bathroom and no milk in the fridge.
Or worse, you’ll end up with milk in the bathroom and toilet paper in the fridge!”
Point taken!
Do I ground myself or does somebody else ground me?
Ideally you should do this for yourself, and we strongly recommend that you learn grounding techniques and use them regularly.
Having said that, you absolutely can help to ground other people, and I sometimes do this if my students in meditation class are feeling a bit too “floaty” and are having trouble grounding themselves.
When should I ground?
Before and after any sort of spiritual work, meditation, healing (whether you are giving or receiving healing,) and any time you feel a bit spaced out.
It’s unlikely you’ll do it too much – most of us in the psychic community freely admit that we don’t ground ourselves enough!
How do I ground myself?
There are no hard and fast rules here, and we all have our own techniques that work.
Here are a few of my favourite, simple techniques to get you started.
As you travel your spiritual path, you may learn or develop your own versions of these techniques or discover new ones, but this is a good place to start.
